Renee's 60 Mile Breast Cancer Journey

I am excited about an upcoming “life-changing” event. I have the opportunity, along with Jeanne, Jeannetta, and Joan (my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and aunt-in-law), to be a part of the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk in Colorado. The 60 mile walk is this summer, August 2 – 4th and the money raised from this event will be used for breast cancer research and education. The minimum amount I have committed to raise is $1,900, but my goal is $2,500. This is where you come in! I hope you will be willing to sponsor me to help me reach my goal.

Why this fundraiser? Why breast cancer? The numbers are chilling. One in nine women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. One in nine. To put a face on that statistic, I started counting women I care about. My mom, my aunt, my mother-in-law, my godmother, my girls-night-out-buddies, and my daughter. Statistically speaking, one of them will develop breast cancer. Realistically, two of my loved ones have developed breast cancer. Hopefully they will remain in the ranks of the 2 million survivors in the country today. But what if they were one of the 40,000 women who will die of breast cancer this year? My family and friends are more likely than average to be survivors. Why? Because while there is no cure for breast cancer, it is treatable when it is detected early, and they would be likely to get the tests necessary to catch the disease early. The money I raise will go toward education, mammograms for women who can’t afford them and research for a cure.

I’m writing to ask you for two things. First, I’m asking you to sponsor me in this walk with a tax deductible donation. The second thing I’m asking is that you send me the names of any of your friends and family who are or were victims of breast cancer. You can do this by signing my guestbook. I would be honored to carry their names with me when I walk.

Thank you so much for your support!!
